Hey! I'm Heather Bennett-Hart and this will be my official second year of teaching! I've been teaching fourth grade for a year and half and am excited to see a complete year of fourth grade! So far during my teaching experience, I have experienced Hurricane Florence and now a global pandemic! I'm excited to see a full year with hopefully NO interruptions!
Fourth grade is definitely my favorite grade to teach and I'm even more excited to take on the adventure of doing it 100% remotely. I know we are all living a new normal and I am here to help you and your child through these crazy times. I have a very energetic and extroverted personality. I love to make learning fun and will try to do my best with that being virtual (don't worry, I have some tricks up my sleeve!). My favorite subjects to teach are Math and Science. Do NOT be intimidated by fractions or the different strategies I will be showing your child on how to do math BUT I also encourage parents to show their child the ways they were taught because it might be easier on the child! During my virtual learning last school year, I loved getting input from parents on ideas for the classroom or anything that you may have lingering on the back of your mind, please don't hesitate to reach out!
As for my background, I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology from The State University of New York at New Paltz and a master's degree in Elementary Education from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Yes! I am originally from New York, born and raised. I moved to North Carolina, more specifically to Wilmington three years ago and then moved to Jacksonville a year and a half ago to be closer to my now husband. My husband is a Navy Corpsman and I am still very new to the military lifestyle! We have a cat named Oliver and a dog named Orion. They WILL make their appearance throughout virtual learning. My students last year loved getting to see my fur babies! When I'm not teaching, I'm either buried in a book or engrossed in my Animal Crossing game OR having a dance party in my kitchen while experimenting with new recipes! I have a HUGE obsession with the movie and soundtrack Hamilton as of recently. Music was a big part of my classroom and I'm hoping to incorporate it into virtual learning.
We are all coming from different virtual learning experiences. I was fortunate to be a part of a school of a school that encouraged a strict schedule for virtual learning, which set me up to be super successful with doing this permanently!
